Texas Shooting

It is completely unfathomable to once again hear that innocent lives were taken in yesterday’s shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Like you, I am deeply saddened and asking God for His wisdom in how to process this evil.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!
I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

Jesus tells us we will have trouble, so it should come as no surprise that natural disasters, acts of evil and inhumanity will occur. However, in the midst of such trouble, we can take heart and have peace for the grace of God will win out according to His promise. Our peace is not found in the absence of stress, sadness or pain, but in the presence of our Lord as He walks with us through every moment of our lives, and assures us that we can overcome because He has overcome the world.

We are continually grateful to Grace Farms Foundation for their well-thought-out safety policies and procedures. Led by a former Director of the Department of Homeland Security, and a team of experienced police and safety experts, it is important to know that Grace Community Church is in the best of hands seven days a week. Their vigilant watch monitoring all who come and go is a huge comfort. Thanks to the foresight that Grace Farms Foundation had years ago, we can continue to gather, worship and enjoy our church community.

When faced with worry, anxiety, and fear, as believers, we can guard our hearts and minds against falling into despair by turning to the loving God who offers encouragement. We might still feel afraid, but we can believe that God is with us. We may not be in control, but we can trust the One who is. We may not know the future, but we can know the God who does.

This evening as we pray, or as we tuck our children into bed, join me in prayer for the families who lost loved ones in Sutherland Springs, for our country, and our leaders. It is my hope that every night you go to sleep knowing God is in control, and when we put our trust in Him, we can be certain that His will and eternal purpose will be accomplished.
